Caiwuwei district is located at the heart of Shenzhen on the district border between Luohu and Futian District. It includes the Chingdu Hotel and Shenzhen Opera House, which are the icons of the Implementation of “the Open Door Policies” in 1980s. In early 2015, a invited competition was announced by one of the largest property developer in Shenzhen. There were 4 architectural practices and we were invited to compete against international practices: SOM, PLP and Ole Sheeren.

This scheme includes redevelopments of the existing Chingdu Hotel, Shenzhen Opera House. The proposal will bridge the missing links between the North and South District between the Shen Nan Avenue, with green-link and pedestrian network underneath. We have proposed a 660m tall tower on the south to echo the existing KK100 tower, and that would challenge the Ping An Tower and become the tallest building in Shenzhen. On the north, the new Shenzhen Opera House with free-flow open plan is designed in order to improve the accessibility to the KK 100 tower and KK Mall.
