Design Concept:

The existing outdoor sitting area would be replaced by a twin-pavilion structure which it is going to maintain its original purpose. It provides a pleasant outdoor space for EMSD staffs, visitors to sit under shades by a flower-like structure which composed by approx. 200 number of identical components. The concept of City Momentum is interpreted as subtle changes of light and shadow under the sun. The blossoming gesture of the structure signify the tranquility nature of the sitting area which surrounded by busy traffic in Kowloon Bay. It could encourage people to stay outdoors.

The idea of using a ‘’gear-like’’ module is trying to symbolize the job nature of EMSD as well as to celebrate the Toy Industry of Hong Kong. The assembly of the module is referenced from an iconic floral-building block which has been manufacturing in Hong Kong for many years. The vibrant colors of pinks and purples to represent as the color palette of Bauhinia as well as standing out from the monotone buildings and surrounding structures.
