Design Concept:

The redevelopment of a Youth Hostel for HK young people to replace existing primary school which is adjacent to a Listed Man Mo Temple which is currently operated by the same client. The team was appointed to redesign the façade as well as the lower floors to reflect the context of the temple and the local neighbourhood. The lower floors of the hostel are lift up to create a triple-storey open space to link up the foreground of the temple. This could be the event space to open to the public as a covered recreation park.

A prefabricated brick-clad façade with planters and vegetations are proposed on the west elevation next to the temple to minimize the impact as well as to blend-in the glazed green roof tiles. Apart from that, similar design elements from the temple are also adopted in the design of this project to mix between with the old and new.
